The week of activities "Karavomaragkoi kai Forografoi" co-organized with the South Aegean Region and supported by the Municipality of Syros-Hermoupolis at the G. & E. Vatis Art Hall, concluded with an open event on the art of wooden shipbuilding through photography and directing on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Initially, a panel discussion took place with professionals in the field - Makis Mavrikos and Maria Mavrikou - coordinated by journalist Lina Theologitou. This was followed by a screening of the short documentary created by the participants of the educational program under the supervision of the renowned directors Kyriakos Aggelakos and Stelios Tatakis, as well as the documentary Markos Voutsinos, who also participated in the Doc at First Sight. Subsequently, there was a conversation with the creators.
The event concluded with a sea-themed concert by a musical group featuring Aristo Vamvakousis, a traditional musical instrument teacher at the "En Chordais & Organois - The Great School of Markos," on bouzouki, along with Zannis Maragos (Orchestra of the Cyclades, Kavafis Group, etc.) on guitar, and the wonderful Christiana Galiatsou on vocals.
The photography and visual arts exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Syros Photography and Cinema Association, was visited by many people, primarily residents but also visitors to the island.
Notably, during the event, two educational visits were conducted by high schools in Syros. Finally, on Saturday, February 24, the open seminar on directing titled "Greek Documentary Illuminates History" took place, led by directors Kyriakos Aggelakos and Stelios Tatakis.
We would like to warmly thank all participants, collaborators, and contributors to the event, as well as our sponsors: Makryonitis Distillery, Athymaritis Syros, and All in 1 store.
